BROADBAND ACCESS FOR TRINITY COUNTY
WILL BE A REALITY AS SOON AS 2009.
Head of Governor Schwarzenegger's Broadband Task Force and former Secretary of
Transportation Sunne Wright McPeak, informed me a few weeks ago that the California
Public Utilities Commission has allocated 100 million dollars to the expansion of
broadband within the rural areas of California.  Trinity County can count itself fortunate to
be on the top of that list with our 3 county partners, Humboldt, Del Norte and
Mendocino as part of Redwood Coast Connect.

We expect some round table meetings to be taking place in the spring of this year with
potential projects to start in 2009.  I've said it once and I'll say it again, broadband today
is like electricity was in the 1930's.  The communities that have it have the opportunity
to move ahead, those who don't fall behind.  Although we do currently have some
access we do not have consistent and redundant service in the large data pipes that will
be needed in order to be truly competitive.  The projects associated with Redwood Coast
Connect will propel us to that competitive level.  We are so pleased that our little $
35,000 CDBG grant has turned into this full fledged infrastructure project for this 4
county area of Northern California and a big thank you to Sunne and our stalwart
partners in the other counties.

SUSTAINABILITY

This is a term that is getting a great deal of play right now but it does have a
fundamental meaning.  Doing what you can with what you have.

I'm inviting you to
join a new network of what will be a large cross section of
agricultural, forestry, energy, transportation  and other interests in talking about and
implementing sustainability for Northern California and Southern Oregon.

We named this network "Get Behind The Mule" because it is going back to basics.
Plowing furrow after furrow in a field in order to harvest the results of your hard work.
This is a project that will take awhile to develop and grow but the results will be fruitful
and community driven.  Please click on the box to the right to take a peek and please
devote some time and energy to this project.  We need and appreciate your participation.

"Most people don't recognize opportunity because it usually shows up in overalls and
looks like hard work". - Mark Twain

A great quote.  Here's one from me. "Momentum begins with a push"

I've also recently been appointed as the sole California representative on the National
Association of Counties
Green Government Advisory Board.   This group includes 15
other elected officials from around the country and also 16 private sector representatives
including significant players from Siemens, IBM, American Institute of Architects,
General Motors, Edison Electric Institute, Diesel Technology Forum, U.S. Green
Building Council and more.

I'm hopeful that this will be an opportunity both to learn about and influence the
development of programs and policies that could benefit Trinity County and Northern
California.

My goal with this site is to keep the citizens informed and involved in their community
and local government processes. If you have any suggestions for me or questions
regarding the site, local issues, etc. please
click here to find out how to contact me
directly.

I want to relate my thanks for your continued confidence and support.  Together we can
continue our success.
